YouTube is now Working Again in MP4

YouTube is now Working in MP4 for viewer 1.23,Viewer 2.1, Emerald 1634, Emerald 2439. No TV update is required.

We will continue testing it for performance.

(Temp Solution) We are now Streaming YouTube in flash

I changed our server to stream all YouTube videos in Flash while we work on the YouTube issue. For now, all the TV versions are streaming YouTube videos in flash, no TV update is required .

As a temporary solution, using an SL viewer with Flash support should get YouTube on any TV version.

The flash videos may not work on some computers due to a bug in the snowglobe media plugin.

We are still working to get to YouTube back to normal in MP4.

YouTube Issues

Unfortunately YouTube stopped working again in SL. YouTube made changes that made it stop streaming in MP4.

YouTube still works in Flash format for Snowglobe based Viewers like Emerald Beta 2270 and Snowglobe 1.3.(But it doesn't work on Viewer 2.1)

To enable flash on the TV click on TV Main Menu->Options->Use Flash.

The YouTube issue is SL wide, we are still working on it and hope to find a solution. I will keep posting updates as we make progress.

Solution To Radio Issues: 500 server is not reachable (Spade, Lily Radio)

We found out that the radio streams saved to Bookmarks on the Spade and Lily Radio, are giving errors and not working anymore.

To fix this issue; Search the radio for the streams (using rsearch) and save them again. This will get them working again.

Shoutcast changed the IDs of the radio streams, so the old streams saved in the Bookmarks no longer work because they have a wrong shoutcast ID. This is why it gives the Error message when the radio tries to play the stream. Adding them again from search corrects the issue.

We are still looking into the issue and will post more updates as find out more.

How To Back up your Bookmarks before Update to DreamTV Mini

Before you Update your YouTube TV PRO or Remote to the DreamTV mini, you can backup your YouTube Bookmarks.

To back up your Bookmarks:

This works for the YouTube TV PRO or Remote.

Click on Your TV Main Menu -> WebTV button ->

Open the Web Page -> Select Go to page

On the Web page click on Bookmarks

then on the Bookmarks page, Click on Export List to My Playlist Notecard;

This will display the list of videos in your Bookmarks in a format ready for 'copy and paste' to the My Playlist Notecard inside your TV or a notecard inside SL.

Copy the list from the page and paste the list to a blank notecard in your SL inventory as a Backup.

After you update your TV, simply copy the list and paste it on the notecard inside the TV called 'myplaylist' . This will make all the videos in the list instantly available on the My Playlist Channel of the TV.

After you have copied the list to the myplaylist Notecard. Click on your TV Main Menu -> My Playlist button, you will see all your saved videos listed again in the My Playlist Channel. From My Playlist you can browse and play the videos on the list, or Auto-play all of them.

Flash YouTube videos for Snowglobe and Emerald Beta

There is a bug in snowglobe based viewers that prevents youtube videos from playing in TV when the videos are in MP4 format. This causes the Youtube videos to display a white screen on the TV. This also affects Emerald Beta viewers.Other viewers like Viewer 1.23, Viewer 2, regular Emerald 1636 are not affected.

The solution for Snowglobe/Emerald Beta users is to watch the YouTube videos in Flash format. We have added an option to the TV, to switch youtube videos to stream in Flash. This will get Youtube videos working again for snowglobe users.

This feature requires updating the TV to the new version 6.1.6 (The new TV version now in the Store). Free updaters are available in the store to update older TVs to support this new feature.

Using the new TV version:

To Switch the TV to stream YouTube videos in Flash;

Click on the TV Main Menu -> Options -> Use Flash.

This will make the TV Stream all YouTube videos in flash video format, good for viewers based on Snowglobe 1.3.2 like Emerald Beta version.

To switch the YouTube videos back to Stream in MP4 format,

Click on the TV Main Menu -> Options button -> Use MP4.

The TVs need to be updated first to get the Flash option. The Free updaters are now in the Stores. Sorry for the issues. We are adjusting to the new viewers and changes.

The new Update is for the DreamTV, ZoomTV, Plasma TV, I hope to release an update for the YouTube TV pro over the weekend. This update is optional, only required for users of snowglobe based viewers.

Note that snowglobe's media plugin system is not yet as stable as Viewer 1.23 Quicktime parcel media player. There may still be issues playing flash videos in snowglobe, results may vary for each computer.

New Improved Web TV Channel

We have re-designed our WebTV Channel to make it more functional and trendy. Also getting it ready for viewer 2.1 with shared media. The old design layout was broken during a server upgrade by my hosting provider.

Introducing the new design;

To open the WebTV Channel from any @home TV, click on the WebTV Button from the TV Main Menu

And open the web page in-world

Features now includes watching the videos directly on the site; from youtube and popular podcasts;

Subscribing to channels, adding videos and radio streams to favorites is available now on the DreamTV, ZoomTV, PlasmaTV and coming soon on the YouTube TV.

Stream Media - playing videos stored on your hard drive in SL using Opera Browser and WebTV; is available by clicking Stream Media from the Menu;

How it works

Note: The webTV channel on the TV allows you to save an unlimited number of PornRabbit videos to Favorites on WebTV.

Thanks to the requests to add Auto-Play for Adult to TV. We added PornRabbit because it plays very well in SL. It plays better than Tube8.com videos. Tube8 videos seems to lag.

Changes
We moved the Web Playlist button from the Main Menu to the My Playlist Menu. The Web Playlist (i.e. Playlists created on YouTube.com) is now available from
Main Menu -> My Playlist -> Web Playlist.
Web Playlist seems like a good fit for the category of My Playlists on the TV. And we now have better playlist support on Youtube Channel which allows sync'ing videos with our server on WebTV. I am in the process of re-doing the webTV site, this will be a better option to using a playlist created on youtube.com.

YouTube now working again on Viewer 1 and Emerald

We now have YouTube videos working again on regular SL viewer 1.23.5 and Emerald 1634. We are still testing it for performance.

We are streaming the videos from our server. Some videos may not work at times while we balance the load on the server.

Snowglobe 1.x is not working for now, I will fix that shortly (emerald 1839 Alpha is based on snowglobe also not working atm). I will keep posting updates as we make progress. Many Thanks for the patience and support.

[Update]If YouTube videos are not working for you try downloading Quicktime again and re-installing it. Restart the computer after Quicktime is re-installed. This should get the videos working.

Problems with viewer 2.0.1 and YouTube

The new version of viewer 2 version 2.0.1 has problems playing YouTube flash videos. We recommend using snowglobe 2.0 instead. Snowglobe 2.0 is the same code with Viewer 2.0.0. For viewer 1.23.5 User Interface you can use Snowglobe 1.3.2 which looks like the old SL viewer.

New Release: @home DreamTV v6.1

Happy to announce the release of the New @home DreamTV 6.1 Series;

This version was scheduled to be released on March 17 before the issues with YouTube started. But we delayed this release to work on YouTube. For now YouTube works on the TV using Snowglobe, SL Viewer 2, Kirstens Viewer or any SL viewer that supports Flash. We are still testing different options for fixing YouTube on non-flash SL viewers based on 1.23.5.

This new TV version has our latest scripts and updates with all new features listed below;

Now includes...

New Sync feature
Allows you to Sync the YouTube videos Stored on your TV with our server by clicking a single button on the TV.

YouTube Channel now has a Sync Button

When you Click on Sync the YouTube videos saved on your TV will be uploaded to the server and added to the list of videos you already have on the server. The new updated list will then be downloaded to your TV. Sync keeps the videos on your TV current with the videos you saved on the server.

With Sync you never lose your videos. The server will always have a copy of the list. Sync updates the TV and server to keep both current with exactly the same list of videos.

You can download your list of favorite YouTube videos from the server to any @home TV you own by clicking the same Sync button.

You can also access your list of YouTube videos on @home TV via webTV even if you don't own the TV (as long the TV owner didn't restrict access)

New Clear List Button on the YouTube Menu to clear list of YouTube bookmarks on the TV by a single click and chat command to confirm the action. This will only clear the list of videos on this TV, it will not affect the list of videos saved on the server. This feature only works for the TV owner

New Favorites Tab on WebTV

Now you can Subscribe to your favorite channels on WebTV for easy access to their latest shows available on the new 'My Channels' Page available from the Favorites Tab.

Viewer Issues: Some of the WebCasts/podcast videos available on WebTV have don't work well on Viewer 2 and Snowglobe. The Quicktime plugin that comes with Viewer 2 and Snowglobe is not yet as stable as the regular parcel media player on 1.23.5 viewers like emerald and old SL viewer.

New: Play movies stored on your Hard Drive with Stream Media on WebTV
Now you can Play videos stored on your PC Hard Drive directly inside SL using WebTV and Opera Web Browser. See details here. The video will need to be in quicktime supported video format (or in flash format if your viewer supports flash) . This feature works with all @home TVs with webTV.

Slam TV doesn't work on Snowglobe and Viewer 2. This new TV version was originally intended for viewer 1.23.5, future TV versions will be able to switch TV modes between viewers to access special features of each viewer.

New Chat Command

/800 release url

When this command is typed on chat in front of the TV, the TV will Release its web address and acquire a new web address for webTV. This command only works for the TV owner.

Fixes
After a region or rolling restart the TV no longer needs to be picked up to inventory to fix the 'NOT FOUND' error issues on WebTV.
Simply clicking on the TV Main Menu -> WebTV button and opening a new web page will fix this issue (without picking up the TV and rezzing it again). [ fixed from version 6.0.4 and higher. Also fixed on YouTube TV Pro 7.0.4 & higher]

When the TV is on auto-play and meets a video that is no longer available on youtube it will Now skip and play the next video. In the older versions of the TV it goes out of auto-play when it meets a video that is no longer available on youTube. [fixed from version 6.0.2 and higher. Also fixed on YouTube TV pro 7.0.2 and higher]

Changes
We recently noticed that the YouTube script with Saved videos may crash when it holds over 130 videos in memory. In this new version we changed the limit of videos saved in memory from 150 videos to 120 to prevent the script from crashing in the future. However the server will be able to hold unlimited youtube bookmarks available via webTV.

FREE Updates for Older TV versions
We have free updaters available in the store to update the older TV versions to the new v6.1.

FREE YouTube video Backup Script
We have a new script available that you can drop your older TV to automatically upload all the Saved YouTube videos on it to the server.

After you update your older TV to the latest version simply click on the Sync Button from YouTube menu to download your videos once again. Using this backup script you don't lose your videos because of the update .

This video Backup script only works with @home TVs with WebTV support. (works with @home DreamTV 6.0.x,ZoomTV 6.0.x, Plasma TV 6.0.x, Universal Remote 6.0.x, YouTube Pro 7.0.x and @home WebTV)

The script is packaged with the @home TV Updater now available in the store.

YouTube now working (with Snowglobe 1.3.2 and up)

[update 3/23/2010 12:39PM SLT] YouTube videos are now working again but it requires using the SL viewer; Snowglobe 1.3.2 (recommended) or SL Viewer 2Beta.

No change or update is required on the TVs, the TVs still work the same way. Only requirement is using an SL Viewer that supports flash. We are now using flash to stream YouTube.

Snowglobe is Linden Lab's Open Source SL Viewer with Flash support.

This is only a temporary solution while we find a more permanent fix that will work on all SL viewers. Unfortunately, Emerald viewer won't work with this. Upcoming Emerald versions will have flash support. And I'm still running tests to find a solution that will work all SL Viewers (mostly 1.23.5 and all viewers based on it like Emerald). This is a temporary fix for now. Thanks for the support.

We plan to release a series of upgrades to the TVs but we need to update our servers to support the new features we are adding to the TV system. We have to do some maintenance work on servers tonight scheduled from 12:00AM SLT. Will last for approximately 3 - 4 hours.

How to convert Videos to play in SL

As we know Second Life uses Apple's Quicktime to play videos. For a video to work in SL it needs to be converted to a Quicktime supported video format like .mov, .mp4, .m4v, mpg, mpeg.

Videos in non-quicktime formats like DIVX, avi, flv, vob etc need to be converted to a quicktime supported format to work in SL.

The perfect software for video conversion is Handbrake. Handbrake is an open source video converter that easily converts any video to Quicktime mp4 format.

You can download Handbrake from here http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php. Its available for Windows, Mac OS and Linux.

To do the video conversion:
Step 1. Launch the Handbrake software on your computer

Click on Source & Select the
file you want to convert to Quicktime mp4.

Also select the location you want to converted file to be saved in. The default location is the Desktop.

Best settings for SL;

Check to be sure you have the same settings as those circled above. (The format should be MP4 suitable for SL. The Video Codec should be H.264 (x264). Last thing is the video needs to be Web Optimized, this makes the videos play smoothly in SL with no lag.)

Optional:

This is optional. You may choose the Target Size, this is the size of the video file after its converted to MP4. The smaller the file the better it will play in SL. But as the file gets smaller its picture quality also gets worse. A good rule for large video files is to set the Target Size around 500MB - 700MB. This size will likely keep the picture quality intact while keeping the file small enough for smooth playback inside SL. IF any confusion you may skip this and continue. The video should still work fine.

Final Step is Click Start; to start the Video Conversion (encoding).

Usually takes about 30mins - 1 hour to complete the conversion, depends on the file size and computer speed. Once its done simply locate the file on the folder you had set as Destination. (Desktop by Default.) And your done.

The video is now ready to play in SL. You can play it in SL directly from your computer hard drive using the steps we posted here: http://myslhometv.ning.com/forum/topics/play-videos-stored-on-your-pc

I normally use Quicktime Pro to format videos for SL but Quicktime Pro will only work with a few limited video formats. Handbrake works with nearly all video formats and converts it to MP4. Handbrake is built on top of powerful open source libraries for video encoding which were not normally available using a simple GUI as Handbrake provides. Most of those libraries were only available via command Line.

Play videos stored on Your PC Hard Drive inside SL directly

You can play the videos stored on your Computer Hard Drive inside SL using the Opera Web Browser. You don't need to upload the videos to YouTube or any hosting service. The videos will play directly from Your PC.

This is done using Opera Unite, a service on the Opera Web Broswer. Opera Unite turns your Computer (PC or Mac) into a Server, allowing you to share files, videos, music, photos online with friends, family or colleagues without having to upload your files to a service like facebook, YouTube, Flickr or a Web host.

To share the videos or files you will need to install the opera web browser on your computer. Your friends or colleagues watching your videos will not need to install Opera on their computer.

Step 1. First step is to Download and Install the Opera Web Browser v10.10. Download it from here;

Step 2. Then launch the Opera Web Browser

Start the Opera Unite Service in the Browser from the Main Menu ->Tools ->Opera Unite Server -> Enable Opera Unite

Step 3. To use Opera Unite, You need to log into your Opera Account, you can use your my.opera.com account to log in. If you don't have an account click "I do not have an account" to create a new account.

Step 4. Create an Opera Account if you don't already have one

Choose a name for this computer. This name will be used to identify this computer among your other computers running Opera Unite. Just choose home as computer name if in doubt.

You have now started the Opera Unite Service.

Next step is to install the Stream Media application . Stream Media is the application that allows you to stream videos,music and pictures from your hard drive to anywhere on the web (including SL).

After you install Stream Media Application, You will be prompted to Select a folder on your computer you would like to use for Sharing videos and music. This folder will contain the media files you want to Stream or share in SL. Select the folder you want to share and click OK.

The Stream Media Service is now running. You can copy the Stream Media URL and give to your friends to use for accessing the videos shared on your computer. They can open the URL anywhere on the web with any web browser Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Opera. This is also the URL you use for playing the videos inside SL. Below shows steps for playing the shared videos inside SL. For the videos to work in SL the they have to be shared as Public without password as shown in the picture above.

Playing the videos in SL Using Web TV

Step 1. Open Web TV from your @home TV. Click on your TV Main Menu -> Web TV Button -> Open the web page

Step 2. Click on the Channels Tab on the web page.

Step 3. This takes you to the Channels and TV SHOWS page. Scroll down the right sidebar on that page to Apps, You will find Stream Media listed under Apps. Click on Stream Media.

Step 4. This takes you to the Stream Media page. Copy and Paste your Stream Media URL here.

The stream Media URL is found here, its the same your URL you give to your friends to open on their browser to access the videos/mp3s you share using the Opera Unite Stream Media App.

Step 4: After the Stream Media URL is submitted the shared videos on your computer will be loaded on the webtv website. You can click Play in-world to play them with your TV inside SL directly.

Playing the videos with the My Playlist Notecard
You can also copy the direct url of the video files provided by Stream media and add them to the myplaylist notecard inside the @home TV.

To get the direct URL of a video, First open the Stream Media URL on any browser and
right-click on the name of the video you want to add to the notecard and Select "Copy Link Location" or "Copy Link Address" varies by Browser.

You can also get the direct URL of a Stream Media video from the webTV page that loads the lists of videos, by right-clicking on Watch on browser and select Copy Link Location.

You can add the direct URL in the myplaylist notecard in your @home TV or on any SL TV that supports notecards. You can also add the url direct to your SL parcel's About Land -> Media Tab -> Media URL section.

Softporn/Mature videos now in YouTube Search

We have updated the YouTube search in the TVs in SL and on WebTV to include the softporn/Mature (age-verify) YouTube videos in the search results.

Before this update searching for explicit keywords will only return moderate level results the mature/softporn videos did not show up in the search but we have now enabled the search to include them.

We have also updated the server scripts to make the in-world video search to run faster.

Updates on YouTube Playlists

We found out recently about issues with YouTube playlists loading incorrectly on the TV menu. YouTube made some changes on their system. We needed to change the scripts on our server to adapt to it.

We have now updated our server and the YouTube playlists are now loading properly again. The new update on our server also makes the YouTube playlists load faster inside SL.

Thanks to everyone that notified us about the issues.

There is still a known issue with YouTube Playlists; the YouTube playlists currently return only moderate rated videos, the mature videos in the playlist do not load inside SL. We are still looking into this; will post more updates on it. This only affects playlists created on Youtube.com, the saved videos, Bookmarks or My Playlists or other lists on the TVs are not affected.

[RESOLVED] Server issues affecting YouTube, Web TV and the radios

[RESOLVED Dec 19 9:24PM]The issues with the server has been resolved. It was our front end server that went offline caused by various issues with our network provider. The issue is now fixed. Thanks for the patience and support.

Script Errors: As a side effect to the server issues if you still get this script errors when you click on your TV;

llDialog: message too long, must be less than 512 characters.

To fix it: Paste any youtube url on SL chat and press Enter. The TV will play the video, this should get the menu back up and TV working again.

OR do a search for youtube videos and play one of search results from the menu, This will also resolve the issue and get the TV working again. please contact us if issues persist.

Unfortunately we are having issues with our server affecting YouTube, WebTV and the radios. We are working with our server provider to resolve the issues ASAP. I will keep posting updates here.

If you get 'page NOT Found' errors while playing videos on WebTV

The Rolling restarts going on in SL is having some strange effects on some TVs in world; If you get this error when you try playing a video on WebTV;

Pick up the TV to your inventory and rezz it again, this will fix the issue. After the TV is rezzed again click on the TV (webTV button) and open the WebTV web page once again. This will give your TV a new address because the rolling restart expired the old address. This will fix the issue. Sorry for the hassle.

UPDATE:If you are having problems accessing bookmarks or YouTube playlists on WebTV, pick up the TV and rezz it again to fix the issue. Also click on the TV to get a new web page address for webTV after it is rezzed.

PornRabbit Channel: New Keyword Search & Categories feature

Happy to announce, we have added keyword search & categories to the PornRabbit Channel on WebTV.

Its now possible to search PornRabbit.com for XXX videos by keywords or browse videos by categories. All done from the WebTV Channel. This makes it easy to find and discover new XXX videos.

To Access the XXX content on WebTV
Step (1) Open your TV's web page (by clicking the WebTV button)
Step (2) Click on the Settings Tab from the Web Page main menu;
Step(3) Set the Adult content settings from PG to ADULT (if not already set) then click on the link on the page to open the XXX content.

Access the adult content anytime by clicking on the Settings Tab on Web TV main menu.

The new search and Porn categories features of WebTV are still in Beta. Any suggestions and feedback are most welcome.

[RESOLVED] Problems with YouTube videos in SL

[UPDATE OCT 31 - 4:22PM SLT] The YouTube videos are now working fine again, it appears to have been an SL issue; we will continue monitoring it for intermittent issues. Thanks for the support.

Unfortunately we noticed some changes in the way SL processes media that is now affecting YouTube videos playing in SL. We noticed that many videos have stopped playing or started causing extreme lag. This seems to be an SL wide issue affecting all SL TVs. We are working to resolve the issues, please bear with us, I will keep posting the updates here.

PLS IGNORE: Problems with Adding YouTube Playlists

Edit: I was testing with a deleted YouTube Playlist which wasnt loading so I thot it was a problem with the server. It was all a false alarm, YouTube Playlists are working fine as they should.

WebTV now faster than ever

Happy to announce we have just upgraded the WebTV server scripts to make it more efficient. The webTV home page and YouTube video search now loads instantly, many times faster than before.

The video thumbs now shows the name of YouTube user that posted each video and the date it was posted, as well as the description of the video and the thumbnails making the search results even more relevant and interactive.

The 'Today's Most Viewed Videos' section of the WebTV home page is a real-time live feed that displays the most viewed YouTube videos at every instant or snapshot of time. The feed now loads instantly.

Update: WebTV now provides a link to Related videos to each YouTube video, making it extremely easy to discover new videos and follow responses to a video.

LL Rolling restarts affecting WebTV

Unfortunately the Rolling Restarts going on in SL for the Server 1.30.2 is timing out the Web address of some TV's rezzed on the land while it's going on.

This causes the WebTV Channel to give the Message NOT FOUND when attempting to play a video or accessing bookmarks.

To Fix the issue, pick up the TV and rezz it again. This will make the WebTV Channel acquire a new Web address and function properly again.

Issues with getting TV menu or Bookmarks on some TVs

A glitch that occurred during the switch to the new network that affected TVs that were accessing the server at the time of the glitch. Causing the TVs to lose access to the TV menu or lose access to the YouTube videos saved in the TV memory (Bookmarks menu).

The solution to this is to reset the TV script, unfortunately the videos saved on the TV's memory as bookmarks will be lost. Sorry for the hassle caused by this.

To reset the TV:
(a) Right-click on your TV Screen
(b) Select Edit from the Circular Menu

(c) Then Click on Tools from the SL main menu on top of your SL screen, under Tools menu click on Reset Scripts in selection (Tools ->Reset scripts in Selection). This will reset the TV. And will get it working again.

Edit: If the reset doesn't fix the issue;
This means the Script that contains the saved videos ran out of memory and crashed due to effects of the glitch; these steps will fix it;

Step 1. Right-click on the TV screen

Step 2. Select Open from the circular menu, this will open the TV contents window

Step 3. Locate a script named '@home Saved Video Streams (utube Edition)' and double-click on it, this will open a script window for the script.

Step 4. On the open script window Click on the Reset Button.
This will reset the script; this is the script that crashed during the glitch while trying to access the server.

This final step will get the TV back to normal operation.

[RESOLVED] Server issues with our network provider

[RESOLVED 8:15PM Sept 16] Happy to announce we have completed the switch to the new Network Provider. We expect much better performance and reliability on this network. We have used this provider for other services in the past with great results and will expect the same going forward. The TVs and radios are now back to normal. Many thanks for the patience and support.

[Update 10:31AM Sept 16] Most of the DNS records have been updated, from tests i've been running. We are now waiting for the DNS server records used by second life's llHTTPRequest to update. http://imedia.myslhome.tv is back online.

[Update 9:08PM SLT] The TVs and radios are working again now. We have almost completed the switch, now I am waiting for the DNS servers to update their records to connect to the new provider.

[Update 12:31PM SLT] Switching to a different Network Provider. Due to continued problems with our current network provider we are switching to a different Provider. Please bear with us while we make this switch. We expect all to be back up and running within 3 hours. Sorry for the inconveniences.

We are having some server issues with our network provider. TVs and radios are giving the message: 499 Client Error: wrong message sent to server. This is a network issue with the provider we are working with them to resolved the issue. Sorry for the hassle.

Issues with Trend Micro Anti-virus and Quicktime

We found out that Trend Micro had some problems with Quicktime. If you are having problems watching Live TV & SLCN channel (Treet TV) and you have Trend Micro anti-virus installed on your computer;

A patch needs to be downloaded to fix the issue. You can download it from here:

[RESOLVED] YouTube Issues

[RESOLVED 5:10PM SLT, Aug 21] We have resolved the issues we were having with the server. Thanks for the support.

[Update 1:37PM SLT, Aug 20] The server & videos are working now but I am still monitoring it for intermittent problems.

[Update 9:27AM SLT, Aug 20] We have fixed the issues with some YouTube videos not playing and giving the message: 500 Server Error: Server is unreachable. Those videos are now working again on the TVs. I am still monitoring the server for intermittent problems.

[Updated 7:50PM SLT, Aug 19] Unfortunately, we are still having issues with YouTube we are working on the server now. I will post more updates as we work on it. Please bear with us. Thanks for the support.

[RESOLVED] We have RESOLVED the issues with YouTube all is working fine now. The YouTube videos should load properly from now. No more gray flashing on the screen. I have updated our server code this will fix all affected TVs. Thanks for your patience and support.

Unfortunately we are having problems with the YouTube server this is affecting youtube videos playing on the TV, some videos may load slowly or flash gray on the screen without playing. We are working on the server right now please bear with us as we work on this. I expect to get it working ASAP hopefully overnight. Sorry for the hassle.

New version: @home Audio/Video Receiver 4.2.2 (Smart Edition)

We have just released a new version of the @home Audio/video Receiver v4.2.2 (Smart Edition).

This is not a bug fix, the old receivers still work perfectly.
With a slight difference: The old receiver v4.2.1 sends users that need help to our old support portal. And unfortunately we lost that support portal during the server migration in April. The good news is that we now have a much better support portal. This new receiver v4.2.2 sends users that need help to the new improved support portal. This is the new portal http://myslhome.tv/support/ (We are still updating the portal)

If you are using the old receiver 4.2.1, it still works with the same Audio/video script as the new version. No reason to switch it.

Sorry for the hassle. It took us a long time to get the support portal back up and running. We are happy to be back. Thanks for the patience.

How to Add a YouTube Playlist to the TV

The Playlist URL can be found on your Browser Address bar when you Open the main page of playlist on the YouTube Website. You can also find it under the under the Playlist/URL (Permalink) column on the Playlists Main Page.

This sample playlist is called S.L.Tutorials. Its a video collection of Torley Linden's popular SL tutorials videos.

After you copy and paste the YouTube Playlist URL on SL chat and press enter, your TV will load the videos from the playlist to its menu. You can play or browse thru the videos anytime by clicking on the TV Main Menu -> Web Playlist Button. This will take you to the Web Playlist Channel. This is the channel for playing and browsing thru videos on the YouTube Playlist added to the TV. The Auto-play option makes the TV play all the videos on the playlist continuously one video to the next.

Example:
To load the youtube playlist called Beyonce Live to your TV menu which is a playlist of 52 Beyonce live performance videos, simply paste the playlist url on sl chat and press enter.

FIXED: Found a bug in the new UPDATER

I discovered a bug in the new Updater that causes a script error when a video from tube8.com is played on the TV, this only affects the v5.0.6.1 TVs that were updated.

I have now fixed this error in the updater script. Not all TVs are affected but If you get an script error while playing Tube8 Videos, please update the TV again with the Updater from the Store. This will fix the issue. Sorry for the hassle.

The current Updater in the stores now works fine and doesn't lead to any errors. The issues have been fixed in the scripts.

How it works

Adding YouTube Playlists to the TV

This will update the adult channel with the latest videos and get them working again. This is only required if your Adult Videos stopped working. This separate from xvideos.com we are still going to replace it with another website.

[RESOLVED 1:23am slt] Our server is now back online. The youtube, adult channel and radio services are now back online, working again. Thanks for the patience and support.

I signed up for a twitter account a while ago, but 140 letters seemed odd and too small for me. I always had to limit words for ads, store posters or group notices but nothing as limiting as 140 letters. This is why i love blogging, it gives you the freedom to post as much as you like. I stopped using twitter for that 140 letters limit and i didn't get the name. Why the name twitter? i later realized its the sound birds make which makes it a cool name. And today i have 5 followers which is encouraging, so from now am going to be twitting. Updating our twitter feed with the latest info related to @home Entertainment. A lot of new features are coming now that we are safely on the new server with the ability to scale for any amount of traffic...

Switching to new server

[UPDATE 03-29]We are now on the new server and running smoothly. Time to get back to work on new products, features and services. Our major projects were put on hold to finish the server migration. Now am glad to get back to work. Thanks for the patience and support, its very much appreciated.

[UPDATE 03-28] Finally doing the switch to the new server this morning, we have sorted out the prior issues we were having.

[UPDATE] Things didn't go as planned we are back on the old server i found out the new server required more testing so i switched back to the old one. I hope to do the final switch tomorrow. There shouldn't be any noticed difference on the TVs or other products. All changes are on the back-end.

We are currently switching our back-end software to the new server, and hope everything goes smoothly. The switch will happen within the next 4 hours, we expect a safe and happy landing... please stay tuned.

[Update] Server Issues

[UPDATE] We are moving our back-end software to a new server for more reliable service to manage the amount of traffic we currently have. This is the software that runs the Youtube Channels, the adult channel, radios and the myMedia Website.

Unfortunately some of the TVs that tried to play Youtube videos during the downtime will still give script errors when they are clicked. Resulting in no menu and this script error, llDialog: message too long, must be less than 512 characters.

To fix the TV and get it working again:

simply paste any youtube url on chat and press enter. You can paste this url on chat
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF20uyMTqqI
It will get the TV menu back and all the channels working again.Please note in some cases this fix might not work.

If the script error still occurs then the TV scripts will need to be reset. Unfortunately this will reset the saved videos on the TV memory but its the only option if the TV scripts crashed. It will get the TV working again.
You reset the TV scripts by
(a) Right-click on your TV Screen
(b) Select Edit from the Circular Menu
(c)Click on Tools from the SL main menu on top of your sl screen, then from the Tools Menu click on the menu option Reset scripts in selection. This will reset all the scripts in the TV.

If the menu still doesn't come up after this just IM us in-world. We will help you with it.

We found out that our server got overloaded today and went offline. This affected the youtube videos, our radio, website and script errors on some of the TVs.

[Update] We have the server back online right now but we are still testing it. Please bear with us as we work hard to resolve the issue. Sorry for the inconviences. We hope to solve this as soon as possible. I will keep posting as we make progress.

[UPDATE] We have Youtube videos workings again. The issues have been resolved, however we have an issue of some videos loading slowly which we are still investigating. Please stay tuned.[UPDATE]

Some changes on the Youtube service is causing problems with our Youtube channels, we have identified the cause of the problem. And we hope to fix it shortly from the server. Youtube videos are not working atm. Please bear with us while we fix the issue.

I'll be away for the next 12 days am traveling overseas, i'll be logging into sl but not as frequent as usual.
Shaina Angel and Chyenna Jewell are more than able to handle any issue that may arise.

Problems with xvideos.com

We are currently having problems with Xvideos.com, almost all their videos are coming up in flash vdeo format which dosent work in SL.please bear with us as we find alternatives.

[RESOLVED] TV server issues now FIXED

What a long day today, our server went down and brought down our Radios & YouTube channels.
Am happy to announce that the problem has been resolved and fixed.

Unfortunately the TVs that tried to play Youtube videos during the downtime will still give script errors when they are clicked. Resulting in no menu and this script error, llDialog: message too long, must be less than 512 characters.

To fix the TV and get it working again:

simply paste any youtube url on chat and press enter. You can paste this url on chat
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF20uyMTqqI
It will get the TV menu back and all the channels working again.

Please note in some cases this fix might not work. In that case the TV scripts will need to be reset. Unfortunately this will reset the saved videos on the TV memory but its the only option if the TV scripts crashed. You reset the TV scripts by
(a) Right-click on your TV Screen
(b) Select Edit from the Circular Menu
(c)Click on Tools from the SL main menu on top of your sl screen, then from the Tools Menu click on the menu option Reset scripts in selection. This will reset all the scripts in the TV.

If the menu still doesn't come up after this just IM us in-world. We will help you with it.

From what we have found, the problem was caused because we were using CGI, which creates a new process for each request on the server and ended up overloading the server till it crashed.

We have now resolved the issue by switching to fastcgi which can handle multiple requests in one process. With the improved efficiency from fastcgi the TVs and other applications are all running much faster now. You can notice the current speed of the myMedia website.

how to watch Xvideos.com on your TV

We found that the new XXX videos on Xvideos.com website are still in Flash video format which dosent work in SL. This results in many TV users getting this message when they paste a xvideo url on sl chat

"Sorry: The requested video is in a format in-compatible with secondlife: it cannot be played"

The videos on the website that work in SL are the older videos, those have been converted to Quicktime format. You can find them directly by going to Best videos Page 6 or follow this link

Videos from Page 6 thru 200 and over are in quicktime format and will work in SL. Note there is a 50:1 chance that you may still meet a video in Flash format that wont work in SL. But almost all of them are in playable in SL at this point. Thousands of videos.

We didn't have this issue when we first launched the Xvideos channel, we are working to improve it. We expect to add more websites soon. Sorry for the inconveniences.

TV issues now FIXED

Am happy to announce now that we have resolved the issues we were having with the TV lastnight. The problem was causing the TV to give script errors when its clicked.

If you were watching Youtube videos last night on the TV you may still get the script error on your TV and no menu. To get your TV back up and running again, simply paste a youtube url on chat and press enter. You can paste this url on chat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF20uyMTqqI
It will get the TV menu back and all the channels working again.

Please note in some cases this fix might not work. In that case the TV scripts will need to be reset. Unfortunately this will reset the saved videos on the TV memory but its the only option if the TV scripts crashed. You reset the TV scripts by
(a) Right-click on your TV Screen
(b) Select Edit from the Circular Menu

[update]The issues have now been resolved, thanks for the patience and support.

We are having problems with the TV's Youtube channel and Youtube TV
Youtube is making some changes on their website causing the errors while playing the some youtube videos.
The errors are in the form of:

-Script errors: llDialog: message too long, must be less than 512 characters
-Errors messages playing youtube videos

We are working to fix these problems from the Server please bear with us.

Work Around

A fix for the scripts errors:llDialog: message too long, must be less than 512 characters, this errors stops the TV menu from coming up
A way to get the menu back up again is to paste a youtube url on sl chat, this should bring back the TV menu.
You can paste this URL on chat to get it working again

Linux for human beings

If your looking for a good alternative to windows XP and Vista. You want get into the mysterious world of linux, look no more, an easy to use linux is here. This is not the first easy to use linux distribution but its my favorite. Its very easy to install and setup. Its the ubuntu based GoodOS. Its a version of ubuntu linux thats designed to look and feel similar to Mac OS X. It comes with the drivers you need for graphics, sound, video and networking so you don't have to do much technical work to get it up and running. Its a good way to dust up that old PC for the kids.

I am a big fan of google gadgets and the new gOS version is built on the idea of running google gadgets on your desktop. Using google apps for all your computing needs like word processing, spreadsheets etc. The google gadgets is just an addon. Its easy to not use it if you don't like big evil google. The important thing to note is that gOS is linux that's so friendly those of us that don't want to see the source code can install it easily and use it out of the box for our everyday computing needs.

I have it on my HP laptop and on my Macbook pro. i was able to run SL on it with no problems. Well my HP laptop runs with an intel graphics chip no surprise that sl crashes alot.

gOS gadgets:
I really like this version, it manages to integrate google gadgets as desktop apps. and of course offers openOffice, firefox and other opensource software. The idea is to do almost everything you need using netbased apps.

New Version: @home YouTube TV

We have added Access Control to the YouTube TV with the release of version 5.0.2. Now in the Stores.

The TV owner can set the TV access to Owner Only, Group Only or Public use. This is great for clubs, stores, galleries or other public places.

How it works:

You can control access to your TV using simple commands. There are 3 types of Access Control

(a) Owner Only access:
To set the TV so only the owner can use it simply type on SL Chat:

tv-user=owner

This will set the TV to owner only aceess. When this is done, only the TV owner can control the TV, add a video or change the channel. This setting is best suited for public locations such as shops, clubs, galleries where the videos maybe on Auto-play display for customers.

(b) Public access
To set the TV to public access, simply type on SL Chat:

tv-user=public

When this is done everyone can control the TV, change channels and add videos to memory. This is the default setting on the TV its best suited for your home.

(c) Group Only access:
To set the TV so only members of your selected group can use it simply type on SL Chat:

tv-user=group

You also need to share your TV with the group you want to grant access. To share the TV with group Right-click on the TV screen, select Edit, then while in Edit click on the General tab, click on the Set... Button next to Group: and select the group you want to grant access, then check the box Share with group. Now your all set. Only members wearing the tag of that group will be able to use the TV.

This will set your TV to group only access, only members of the selected group will be able to use the TV, change channel or save videos to the menu.

Only the TV owner can set the access controls for the TV.

To find out the TV's current access control type on SL Chat;
?tv-user

This will make the TV say its current access control.

The above commands only works for @home YouTube TV and Remote v5.0.2.

Happy to announce the release of version 5.0 of our YouTube TV.

New Features:
- Auto-play :- All the saved videos can now be played continuously from one video to the next (automatically). You can now relax and enjoy our favorite YouTube videos, You dont have to click on the menu to change videos all the time. This has been the most requested feature from our users and am happy we have it now.

- Number of Saved videos on Memory:- We have increased the maximum number of youtube videos that could be saved to the TV's memory as bookmarks from 50 to 150. The Bookmarks can now hold 150 videos. My Playlist still holds 255 videos on notecard. All the videos can be played automatically one video to the next.

if i was president...

If i was president of Linden Labs my vision will be software profits and virtual services not land/servers.

LL is sitting on a goldmine but they can't even see it. LL's current business model is to make money by renting out server spaces in the form of virtual land. LL has decided to put itself in the server hosting business. The problem with this is that the server business has very low profit margins, servers have limited resources. So much effort is required to maintain servers. LL should focus their business on the software and virtual services side of secondlife, thats where they can make money at very high profit margins. If i was the president of LL i would focus on growing the SL population and while making a marginal profit from selling land, i would make user satisfaction a priority. I would make most of the revenue from virtual services like classifieds, lindex, uploads and many other forms of virtual services. Unlike servers, profit from virtual services comes at no cost. Its just software you create once and sell a million times over.

If i was president of LL heres what i would do:

(a) Release an old school version of the SL viewer that will work fine on low capacity computers, this viewer will run without all the shiny features in secondlife like windlight, voice etc. This will help keep a large part of the sl userbase. And encourage other users who may not be gamers with high powered systems to stay in sl. I would make SL a way of life, allow low grade computers to connect and work fine with SL.

(b) I would focus on user experience, scale down on the new feature development, just focus on stability of the core product.

(c) yes i would go into content creation, no i wont sell skin or clothes, i would go into making utility software that make SL easier to use. Example I would make financial software that helps merchants manage their sl business, download transactions and track sales, manage customer relationships. I would sell the software at an afforadable rates like 4000L - 2000L. I would make more advanced vendors that marchants have the option to pay more for. Well microsoft didnt just create windows, they also made themselves the biggest supplier of windows software. The goal of LL's content creation would be to make tools that boost Sl's economy, make sl easier to use, improve the user experience. LL can feel free to charge for it. Other examples are building tools, sculpting tools, LSL complier.
I wont monopolize tools. It will be a free market. Any developer outside LL is free to create better tools. The goal is to develop SL. Profits from a grid of servers is limited but there's no limits to software profits. No overhead costs.

My vision would be very simple make users happy, grow the population,help marchants, boost the economy, run servers at a marginal profit, then reap huge rewards (unlimited profits) from selling virtual/software services.

If LL continues to use land as their primary source of revenue, they will see that as more people come into sl their cost will only increase but their profits will remain minimal. They already have free accounts and unlimited inventory space for every user. This will remain a drag on their servers. Right now it seems the sim owners are paying the bill for all the free accounts and the unlimited inventory available in SL. Am not against free accounts or unlimited inventory. I see it as innovative. The inventory and free accounts are unlimited but LL's primary source of income Land/server resources is limited. This means that LL will keep running into problems, LL can barely afford it at the rate they are running now. They need to change their business model. They need to focus on making money from virtual services/software with unlimited potential. There many services LL could create and charge something small for it. With the unlimited profits coming from virtual services that boost the SL user experience and the economy, LL will be able to afford free accounts and unlimited user inventory. LL will be set to make huge profits without raising land prices.

Ok i must be dreaming, i wont be president. But if you want proof that their business model is flawed look at how many times they have increased the cost of Sim ownership. Now they want to increase the cost of OS sims. Its because land is their bread and butter, unless they transform their business to reap unlimited profits from other sources like software they will have no choice but to keep raising prices. If i was president of Linden Labs I would make it a software business with a small server business on the side, not a server business with a small software side.

[RESOLVED] Problems with the myMedia Website now FIXED

We have been having problems with the myMedia website recently, an external internet server caused the site to keep crashing persistently while browsing the pages. It was very frustrating.

I didnt realize how serious the issue was, till a friend of mine told me how she loved the idea behind the site but it crashed too much, it was too frustrating to use. She wanted to return the myMedia Radio she purchased in exchange for the old notecard based Radio. This made me dig deep to find a solution.

Finally, am glad to post here that we found out what was causing the problem and got it FIXED.

She also told me about the problem with the Back button. While browsing webpages the back button wasn't always working. I FIXED the Back button problem as well.

The website is now working perfectly as it was designed to be. The new keyword search makes it easy to find stations playing your favorite music, with improved speed of search operations and a much better user experience.

I apologize for the frustrations caused by the problems. And the time it took to fix it.

The website is working again in top form. Many thanks for the support and patience.
